Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,  

This week is Support Staff Appreciation Week at the Calgary Board of Education. We are very fortunate to have such a remarkable and talented group of individuals at our school working with students, staff and parents. From lunchroom supervisors, education assistants, secretaries, facility operators and more, they contribute to the caring and supportive learning community we have at Andrew Sibbald. Thank you for all you do to make Andrew Sibbald a great place to be. 

We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Allard back to our school after her maternity leave. She will be working primarily with students in grade 5.  

Monday is Earth Day and our students have been involved in learning about our environment and our relationship to the Earth. A quick look through our classroom blogs and you will see Kindergarten has been searching for signs of spring, Grade 2 has been looking at natural systems and linking this to art, and our most recent TREX exhibition allowed for Grade 3 to examine the relationship between art, humans and the natural world. Grade 4 has been studying waste and our world and have launched a pilot project with classroom composting. This is just a sample of some of the learning activities students have been engaged with. 

The City of Calgary is participating in the 6th annual City Nature Challenge. It is an opportunity for individuals and families to capture images of nature in your yards and neighbourhoods and upload them to a global database. The city hopes to surpass the goal of 10 000 entries this year. For more information, check out the link below.

Parent Association 

Thank you to the teacher appreciation committee and parents that provided such a wonderful surprise for our staff this week. The treats were delicious and appreciated by all.  

Grade 4 – 6 Celebration of Learning - Minecraft 

Our students have been hard at work on this year’s Minecraft Challenge: Level Up Calgary Parks and Portals. This year’s theme is “How might we create vibrant and sustainable public spaces that celebrate diversity, foster equity, and create unity for all Calgarians?” Students have been designing and building a station on the Green Line or plans for Haultain Park within Minecraft Education. We would like to invite you to a Celebration of Learning of this work on Thursday, April 25th. See times below:
