Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
We hope you enjoyed some of the beautiful weather this weekend! Our students have been engaged in learning outcomes inside our Learning Grounds and are enjoying the opportunity to do so. Students in Grade 4 slowed down to observe and engage in some Mindfulness during Science. Some of the Grade 2 students went out to explore math outcomes in the learning grounds.
Thank you to Sarah T, our Parent Association Learning Grounds Coordinator who is organizing a Spring Clean Up on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. All families are invited to come and lend a hand to care for this area. Thank you!
Monday – Polling Station at Andrew Sibbald
Andrew Sibbald School will serve as a polling station on Monday, April 28th. Please note that voters will be entering the school through the East Doors and exiting through the gym. Election staff and security will be present. Rec House & Phys Ed will be relocated for the day.
Upcoming Gymnastics Unit
Students will be engaging in school gymnastics beginning Tuesday, April 29th through to Thursday, May 15th. To set your child up for success during this unit, we would ask you to please review the following:
- Students should dress in comfortable clothing that is easy to move in (avoid dresses and baggy clothing, if possible);
- Long hair should be tied back;
- All jewellery should be left at home or will need to be removed prior to engaging in gymnastics;
- Students must be barefoot or wear their indoor shoes;
- Please remember this is school gymnastics and not club gymnastics (some tricks and stunts students may be able to perform in other settings may not be permitted during school gymnastics).
Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest for Grades 4 & 5
Each year, the Department of Mathematics and Computing at Mount Royal University organizes a math contest for students in grade 4, 5, and 6 that are in elementary schools in Calgary and surrounding areas. This is not an exam but an opportunity to develop student’s interest in mathematics by encouraging their involvement in mathematics activities.
Andrew Sibbald School has been participating in this contest for many years. This year, 39 students in grade 4, and 38 students in grade 5 have chosen to participate. It will take place on the morning of April 30th and will consist of 20 multiple choice questions ranging from easy to challenging. Students will have 50 minutes to complete the contest. All students will receive a Certificate of Participation and those students scoring in the top 25% will receive a Certificate of Distinction. Students who have chosen not to participate will be engaged in an alternate math activity during this time.
