Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,

Here’s hoping 2025 has been a great start for you and your families and your winter break was joyful and included some opportunity for rest & rejuvenation. We are looking forward to welcoming the students back tomorrow morning!

January is always an exciting time in schools as we look ahead to Kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year and celebrate the learning students have demonstrated since the fall. Kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year will begin on Monday Jan. 13, 2025. Children can be registered for Kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31 of the school year they will be in Kindergarten. For example, when registering for the 2025-26 school year, the child must turn five on or before Dec. 31, 2025. Supporting documents, including the Birthdate Calculator can be found on the CBE’s Kindergarten page.

Report Cards

The first report card will be available for viewing on January 27th through PowerSchool. Teachers look forward to sharing this summative assessment with you and celebrating your child’s individual achievement of the outcomes taught during the first reporting period. The report card will also include information around your child’s next steps in learning progressions. Here are a few helpful resources related to report cards if the CBE’s 1-4 Proficiency Scale is new to you:

Alien Inline Skating Residency January 20th – 30th

Students will have an upcoming opportunity to participate in an inline skating residency. The purpose of this residency is to allow students to engage in learning a new skill in Physical Education and well as risk-taking, perseverance and having fun with their classmates. Older students will be supporting their younger buddies throughout the residency. Permission forms will be sent home this week and all students will need to have this signed and returned to participate. There is no cost for participation, thanks to our generous Parent Association. Please check out the Alien Inline website if you’d like to learn more about this program.

Storyteller and Author, Jeff Stockton – February

We are thrilled to host author and storyteller, Jeff Stockton to Andrew Sibbald School in early February. Jeff will be visiting classrooms and grade groups of students to share stories and play his harp. Jeff is an inspiring artist whose work with both children and adults has earned him several awards over the years. His impact on supporting children’s creativity and imagination is significant. Stay tuned for more information!
