Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
As we enter 2024, here’s hoping all our Sibbald families had a restful and joyful holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming students back tomorrow morning!
Reflecting on our school year so far, there is much to celebrate including the following:
- Off-site learning to the Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark, Fort Calgary, and Fish Creek Park
 - Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector
 - Open Minds off-site learning experience – City Hall School
 - Honoring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Orange Shirt Day, and Remembrance Day
 - Winter Concerts to highlight music learning in K-6
 - Robotics and Maker Space exploration

Thank you to all parents and volunteers who have supported these opportunities and events. There are many more purposeful and rich learning experiences planned for the rest of the 2024-2025 school year!
Report Cards – January 30th
Report cards will be available for online viewing through your MyCBE PowerSchool account on January 30th. Report cards reflect summative (end) achievement of the learning outcomes taught and assessed during the first reporting period. If your child’s learning is supported through an IPP (Individual Program Plan), an updated hard copy of this will be sent home before January 30th as the IPP and report card work in unison to share information related to your child’s learning and achievement.
If you are new to CBE or your child is new to CBE, here are some informative resources to check out:
Teachers look forward to sharing this learning progress update with you in the coming weeks.
Alien Inline Skating Residency
During the first few weeks of January, all our K-6 students will have an opportunity to participate in the Alien Inline Skating residency. Classes will be participating during some of their assigned time for Physical Education and Wellness. All equipment and instruction are provided to students by Alien Inline staff and classroom teachers will be present to support students. Thank you to our awesome Andrew Sibbald Parent Association for covering the cost of this residency and thank you to our School Council for supporting this enhancement to student learning.
Colder Temps Ahead
Thank you in advance for ensuring your child is properly dressed for the chilly weather that is expected this week. We keep a close eye on the temperature and only stay inside for recess and for lunch when the weather is below -20 (including wind). Patrols are cancelled when it is -20 or below (including wind). It’s vital that student’s gloves, toques, snow pants etc. are all labelled with their names as this helps to ‘match’ students to lost items and helps build student independence around their belongings. Thank you!

2024-2025 Update
Parents and guardians received an email from CBE on Thursday, December 7th outlining information around our grade configuration change for the 2024-2025 school year, to accommodate the growing number of students and families served by CBE. Mr. Flaman and I have begun thoughtful transition planning for our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students who will enter Nickle School next year. All our current Grade 5 and Grade 6 families will have a chance to attend an information session in March 2024 and students will have an opportunity to visit Nickle School in the Spring. This year will be different in that we also get to celebrate the accomplishments of all our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students in June. Parents, we will keep you updated, as more information comes available.
Registering for Kindergarten
Our school will continue to offer alternating full-day kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year as this ensures students travelling by bus have transportation to and from school. Children must be at least five years old as of Dec. 31, 2024, to start kindergarten in fall 2024. Registration opens Jan. 15, 2024. Please see here for more information.
