Monday Message: June 16th

Happy Father’s Day to all of our awesome Sibbald dads, uncles, and grandpas! We hope you had a great day. Thanks for all that you do to support Sibbald.

School Council & Parent Association

Once again, thanks to the parents who have been a part of our Council & Association this year Mr. Newman and I have so appreciated your input, support and engagement. Please know that all parents and guardians who have children at Andrew Sibbald are automatically members of School Council. Please join us on Tuesday, September 9th at 6:30 for our first meeting of the 2025-26 school year. The meeting will include the AGM when important executive positions are elected. Please consider helping out on Council or Association. We’d love to have you there.

Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

For the 2024-25 school year, as a school, we committed to offering students learning opportunities at Fish Creek Park. The purpose of this learning was to explore land-based learning opportunities through the lens of Science Curriculum and Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding (Two-Eyed Seeing). As we look ahead to 2025-26, we will be engaging in both collective and grade-team actions that continue to support Andrew Sibbald students’ sense of responsibility and respect for land based learning. This year however, we will focus on caring for our Learning Grounds and becoming knowledgeable about the plants, trees and living creatures within it. Please see here for more information: TRC Commitment.

Honoring National Indigenous People’s Day at Andrew Sibbald

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. It's a time to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. At Andrew Sibbald School as a part of our learning, we will be hosting hoop dancer Jay Genaille on Thursday, June 19th. Jay is Cree, Salteaux and Anishnaabe, born and raised in Calgary, AB with his Ancestral roots originating from Misipawistik Cree Nation, Lake St. Martin First Nation and Cowessess First Nations.

Parent Association hosted Pancake Breakfast – Yahoo!

We look forward to hosting the Stampede Caravan’s Batter Boys on Tuesday morning for our pancake breakfast. There is no cost to this event for students, as it is covered by our Parent Association. Students will receive pancakes and a drink box. Please note, it’s a good idea to feed your child their typical breakfast before school.

If students have food allergies and would like to bring their own pancake treat or something different to eat during the pancake breakfast, please send it along and reach out to your child’s teacher to let them know. In the afternoon, students will be engaging in Western/Heritage Day activities with their buddies. All students will receive a freezie, donated by Parent Association. If you do not want your child to have one, please email the teacher in advance. It should prove to be a fun day!

Student Voice Wraps Up for the 2024-25 School Year

We are so proud of all of our Grade 4 and 5 students who contributed to Student Voice actions and meetings this year. Student voice, input and agency is an important part of any school community. I look forward to working with next year’s group and supporting their ideas and leadership at Andrew Sibbald. Parents, thanks for supporting your child around their participation this year. It’s made a positive impact on our school and greater community!

All Sport One Day 2025

All Sport One Day is a fantastic, free sport discovery event designed specifically for children and youth aged 6 to 17.
