Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
Happy Father’s Day to all our amazing Sibbald Dads, Grandpas and Uncles! We hope you had a great day being celebrated by your families. Thanks for all you do at Sibbald. You are appreciated!
End of Year Reporting & Transition Planning
Parents and Guardians, your child’s report card will be available for viewing on June 27th through your MyCBE PowerSchool Account. If your child’s learning has been supported through an IPP (Individual Program Plan), you should have received a copy of this, which includes important information around your child’s transition into their next grade. Currently, we are working with Nickle School to support the transition of all our Gr. 5 and Gr. 6 students. We are also working with our teaching staff to create thoughtful transition plans for all our Grade 1 – 5 students next year. Our next year Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Hayes met with all new Kindergarten families to support their transition. Many variables are considered when making class lists and we discuss every child during these meetings. Classroom placements will be shared with families in late August before our Open House scheduled for August 28th.
Before/After School Hours
Parents, please know that there is no supervision before soft entry at 7:50 a.m. We’d also like to remind all parents and guardians that students are expected to go home when dismissed at the end of the school day to check in with parents, guardians, or other caregivers. Students in Grades 5 and 6 were reminded of this expectation last week. Reach out if you have any questions, as Mr. Newman and I are happy to speak with you.
Stampede Caravan Pancake Breakfast – Tuesday morning
On Tuesday morning, the Calgary Stampede’s “Batter Boys” will be onsite as our Parent Association hosts our pancake breakfast. Students will eat with their grade group during scheduled times throughout the morning. There is no cost for students thanks to our Parent Association and all will be provided with pancakes, syrup (no butter) and either apple or orange juice. Of course, there is no obligation to participate and if your child has a food allergy, he or she can bring a replacement item and/or simply drink the juice box provided. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to communicate if your child will not be participating or if you’ll be providing an alternative. It’s best to make sure your child eats breakfast before coming to school since many will be eating later in the morning. This event was a lot of fun last year and we look forward to it again!
All are invited to wear their Stampede gear on Tuesday, as we get into Stampede Spirit!
National Indigenous Peoples Day – Friday June 21
Throughout the year at Andrew Sibbald School, our work around the CBE’s Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework has guided our commitment to our TRC Actions and Commitments. We will be sharing our renewed TRC Commitment for 2024-2025 on our school’s website. For generations, many Indigenous communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on June 21 or around that time of year because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
School Wide Talent Show – Monday June 24
We are proud of all the students who shared their talents in their classroom communities. Parents, thank you for completing the permission form that will be sent home with your child this week, if they were selected to share their talent at the School-Wide Talent Show. More details about the Talent Show will be shared will all parents of children performing soon!
Last Week’s Sibbald Summer Games
Last week, students competed in Olympic themed events in Physical Education. These events led up to our Sports Day on Friday. The weather was cooperative and provided us with a warm and sunny event. Thank you to the Grade 5 and 6 students that led on Sports Day to run all the stations. At the end of each session, our students enjoyed a freezie provided by Parent Association.
