Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. It was great to see many students wearing green last Friday! Parents, thank you for the staff appreciation treats last Thursday on International Pi Day. The pies were delicious and very much appreciated & enjoyed. On behalf of our staff, we wish to extend a huge thank you for all that you do to support all students, families, and staff at Sibbald. We wish you a fantastic spring break and Easter holiday ahead. Students return to school on Tuesday, April 2nd.
Offsite & Onsite Learning for Students This Week
Our Kindergarten students will be heading to Telus Spark this week with Ms. Hatchette and our parent volunteers. They are very excited, and we are very grateful to Ms. Hatchette & the parents attending the trips for supporting this learning opportunity for our youngest learners. We are also looking forward to the opportunity for our Gr. 4 students to extend their learning through a hands-on Science workshop this week with Green Calgary, where students will learn more about their Waste in our World unit. Our Gr. 5 students will also get to engage in an engineering workshop where they will learn more about electricity outcomes in science.
Parent Teacher Conferences – Thursday 4:00 – 7:30; Friday 8:00 – 1:00
Thank you to the parents who have booked conferences. As a reminder, there is no school for Kindergarten on Thursday since Ms. Hatchette is conferencing with parents from 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. There is also no school for K-6 students on Friday as all teachers will be engaging with parents from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. We would like to invite you to come 15 minutes before or stay for 15 minutes after your scheduled sit-down conference with your child’s teacher to view some of your child’s learning samples and learning tasks. This optional portion of the conference is an opportunity for your child to celebrate work samples with you. We hope you enjoy celebrating your child’s individual growth and progress and hearing about their next steps in learning over the final months of the school year. Please book your conference using your MyCBE Powerschool account. Conference booking closes March 20.
Swimming for Kindergarten to Grade 2
As a part of our Physical Education and Wellness curriculum, we are looking forward to taking our K – 2 students to Canyon Meadows Pool for swimming lessons during the week of April 29th. We know our students enjoy and benefit from this off-site activity. This year, due to space issues at the pool, we were unable to accommodate our grade 3 students. More information will be forthcoming from your child’s teacher after spring break along with field trip forms, volunteer expectations and requirements.
School Council & Parent Association Update
Thank you to the parents who joined us last Wednesday evening for our School Council and Parent Association meetings. Education Director, Martin Poirier, shared some explanations around CBE’s overflow planning due to significant increase in student population.
Parents, as a staff, we are grateful for the efforts of our parents who helped with the running of our school’s most recent casino. The funds raised will significantly impact supporting learning enhancements for students over the next two years. Please see the note below about our Spring Flower Fundraiser.
New: Spring Flower and Plant Fundraiser
Happy Spring from Parent Association! We are doing a spring flower fundraiser with all proceeds going towards science and robotics materials for our students. Get into gardening with your kids and choose from strawberry baskets, veggie and herb packs or order some lovely flower baskets for the special moms and grandmas in your life. Plants will be delivered to the school just before Mother's Day. For more information and to sneak a peek at the plants click here:
