Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,

Ramadan Mubarak! For our families who will be observing this holy month, we wish you joy and peace throughout your time of reflection.

We also hope all of our families enjoyed some of the fabulous weather this weekend. Students have been enjoying the puddles throughout the field and playground and are happy to be outside playing with their friends! Thanks for the rubber boots and mud pants for the younger students. The students appreciate them as much as we do.

 2025-206 School Intentions

As we look ahead to the 2025-26 school year, and begin our school planning, it is helpful to know which of our current K-4 students will be returning to us for the 2025-26 school year and which students will be transferring or moving. Please complete this short form that will assist us in our planning. The form will let you provide information on each child joining us in Grades 1 – 5.  New Kindergarten registrations are separate from this form and all current Grade 5 students have been designated to their schools for Grade 6. Thank you in advance!

Conferences – March 20th and 21st

Teachers look forward to connecting with all parents and guardians during the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences. This is an opportunity for teachers to meet with you one-on-one to celebrate your child’s individual learning progress. It is also a time for teachers to talk about your child’s next steps in learning progressions before June. Conferences will be booked through your MyCBE PowerSchool account on Monday, March 17th at 9:00 am. Conferences will move to an online format (Microsoft Teams), as directed by CBE, if labor action continues. Bookings will stay the same (15-minute meetings) and your child’s teacher will email the class a Teams link in advance that will allow you to enter your conference during your pre-booked time. We will keep you informed.

Welcome, Coach Dave

Thank you to Coach Dave who will be volunteering his time this week in Phys Ed with the teachers and students around basketball. Thanks, also, to the parent volunteers who are helping throughout the week. We look forward to a fun week ahead!

Passion for Glass Residency

During the week of March 10th – 14th, all K-5 students will be participating in an arts residency in which each student will use glass to tell a visual story. Students will plan out their visual piece on paper and then assemble glass pieces which will be fired by artist Anna back at her glass workshop. Beyond visual art outcomes, students will be learning about the Science of glass and its properties. Thank you, once again, to our Andrew Sibbald Parent Association for covering the cost of this residency for all our students. Parents, please watch your email as teachers will contact you about volunteering for the residency. Thank you!

Questions about Volunteering?

Andrew Sibbald School has processed well over 150 volunteers this year. Thank you to Mrs. Dupuis and Mrs. Machnee in the office who assist in processing these on an annual basis. If you have questions about the process around becoming a cleared volunteer, please email andrewsibbald@cbe.ab.ca. All CBE volunteers are vetted through the security clearance process; and all information regarding security clearances is strictly confidential, protected by FOIP policies and may only be used or disclosed in accordance with this regulation.

Volunteer opportunities at Andrew Sibbald School are guided by CBE Administrative Regulation 5003 - Volunteers . All volunteer positions have a specified purpose, are organized by classroom teachers and school staff, and are approved in advance by administration. Teachers make decisions around who volunteers along with when and how volunteering opportunities are created and organized. They do this using the information that best serves the needs of their students. Your child’s teacher is your first point of contact around volunteering questions; however, please contact me if you need more information or clarification.

Lastly, thank you for your willingness to volunteer by attending School Council meetings, Parent Association meetings, assisting with fun lunches and staff appreciation, participating in fundraisers, supporting learning at Fish Creek Park, prepping materials for teachers, helping organize and shelve books in the library collection, helping out with residencies and our Book Fair, and ensuring our students can attend off-site learning by volunteering on field trips. Andrew Sibbald offers a range of volunteer opportunities, and we appreciate you!
