Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
We hope you enjoyed some of the beautiful weather over the weekend. Thank you to the families who joined us for our Kindergarten Orientation last week. It was exciting to welcome the children of both familiar and new families.
Thank you in advance to all of the parents who are volunteering for the many off-site learning experiences this week. Our Grade 1 students in Mrs. Kosior’s class are all set to begin their week of learning through Open Minds. Our Grade 2 students are off to the zoo and look forward to seeing many of the animals that they have researched and created stories about. Our Grade 5 students are off to Camp Chief Hector on Wednesday where they will engage in land-based learning in K-Country. We are grateful to all of our staff who dedicate significant time in preparing students for these experiences as well as planning and organizing these opportunities. We are also grateful to you as parents for supporting this learning.
CBE Bell Times & Transportation Changes for 2025-26
Parents, as you are already aware, many schools across the CBE have undergone bell time changes for the 2025-26 school year, due to the provincial regulations around transportation legislation that will come into effect in September 2025. Due to these changes, the walk zones for schools are changing and more students will be eligible for the bus. CBE will be updating all school websites this week with new walk-zone maps that help families know if they are now bus eligible. If you are considering bus registration for the next school year, please do register before the end of June, as this will help inform the creation of routes. Please keep an eye on communication from CBE this week. CBE will soon provide principals with the planning documents to engage in creating the school calendars for the 2025-26 school year. As promised, I will continue to keep you posted with all information around our calendar and bell times, as information comes available.
Crosswalk Safety – Patrols Away Wed-Fri this Week
Parents, please note that there will be no AMA Safety Patrols at our crosswalk on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week as our Gr. 5 students are away at outdoor school. Thanks for your extra care and vigilance.
Rock Your Locks Fundraiser Update
After much consideration and consultation with our staff, we have made the decision to not organize a Rock Your Locks fundraiser this spring. After 20 years of hosting the fundraiser, it is the right (and natural) time to reimagine how we direct our student’s engagement and community’s generosity. We want to acknowledge that this decision brings about mixed feelings and may be disappointing for some. The fundraisers Rock your Locks/Big Brave/Shave Your Lid for a Kid were supported by Andrew Sibbald School and raised over $750 000. This legacy is something we are all proud to be a part of and we want to express significant gratitude to the community around your participation. Your families exemplified generosity, care and community, and for that, we extend another huge thank you and congratulations.
