Some Exciting Learning & Citizenship Opportunities This Week

We look forward to welcoming the Grade 6 students and teachers back from Camp Chief Hector, Outdoor School this week. We also look forward to the learning our Grade 5 students in Mrs. Sampson’s class will undertake while they engage in their “Open Minds” off-site learning down at City Hall this week. Thank you to the volunteers for helping us ensure these learning opportunities can happen! We appreciate your time and dedication.

School Council Resources

Parents, please see our school website for previous School Council Meeting minutes and the Grade One slidesGrade One slides from the Teacher Report shared last Thursday. We have heard from some of you who were not able to make the meeting but wanted to take in some learning around what the Grade 1 students have been taking up in literacy  this fall. Home Literacy information for Grades 1-3 is here on our website. Thank you for all that you do to support the love of reading and writing at home and at school. It is appreciated.

Honoring Remembrance Day

Thank you in advance to the Grade 3 and 6 students for their leadership around our Remembrance Day Assembly this year. We are grateful to honor the Canadian veterans and peacekeepers who have fought for democracy at our assembly Wednesday morning at 10:45 a.m. Thank you, also, to our Kindergarten students who are collecting food donations for the Veteran’s Association Food Bank. We will be collecting these food items until December 21st.

Warm Feet, Warm Heart Campaign

Leading up to the holiday season, we would like to welcome you to join us in supporting the Calgary Drop-In Centre’s ‘Warm Feet, Warm Hearts’ program. With Parkland Cares and Bonavista Cares, we want to begin collecting socks which students will later fill with various toiletries. The filled socks will be delivered to the Calgary Drop-In Centre where they will be given to their clients, thereby helping to provide them with the little necessities that we all need daily.

From November 15th to 30th, we are looking for help in collecting:

  • New pairs of warm socks

  • Gloves, mitts, and hats

  • packaged bars of soap

  • lip balm

  • toothbrushes

  • toothpaste

  • floss

  • travel sized shampoo

  • travel sized conditioner

  • travel sized body wash

  • travel sized lotion / hand cream

  • coffee / food vouchers

  • gift cards

  • chocolate/candies

In early December, students will be invited to fill the socks with the collected toiletries. These socks will then be brought to the Calgary Drop-In Centre where they will be handed out to clients. We believe this is a wonderful way to give back during the holiday season and allow our Andrew Sibbald students the opportunity to highlight their empathy, kindness, and wellness outside of our building.

Thank you for your generosity and support!
