Monday Message: September 2, 2024

Dear Andrew Sibbald families,

Here’s hoping you are enjoying your long weekend and that the first few days of school went well for your families. We are all so happy to have the students back and look forward to a great year of learning together. Thank you for all that you are doing to support your child’s back-to-school routines and their transitions into their new classroom communities.

School Council Meeting – September 11th @ 7:00 p.m.

Did you know that as parents and guardians of students at Andrew Sibbald, you are automatically a member of School Council? We’d love to have you join us on Wednesday, September 11th in our Learning Commons for the Annual General Meeting. Information will also be shared around proposed residencies for the 2024-2025 school year, school wish list items requested by our teaching and support staff to enhance student learning, and updates from our Admin Team. We look forward to seeing you then.

Classroom Learning Updates

Classroom teachers will be publishing classroom blogs (first post will be in the Monday Message for Sept. 9th). Classroom blogs are a window into the learning that takes place inside the classroom. Students whose parents have provided consent to publish will have their photos and work samples represented on the classroom blog.

This year, teachers will also be sending home “take home assessment folders” every few weeks that include your child’s assessed work samples. These folders provide you with ongoing communication around classroom work related to outcomes and your child’s assessment in relation to the outcomes taught. This year, we are focusing on the anchor text, “The Magical Yet” and as a staff, we are excited to support student learning through the power of growth mindset when learning new outcomes, skills and processes. This work aligns with the CBE’s Student Wellbeing Framework.

Crosswalk & Parking Lot Safety

Our teacher patrol supervisors are underway organizing training for interested Grade 5 AMA student patrols. We are happy to offer this training and leadership experience for our students. In the meantime, thank you for using the crosswalk and for your patience in the morning and after school. Ensuring students arrive at school safely is paramount.

There is no access for morning drop-offs, after-school pick-up or parking in our staff parking lot. Parents who drop off for Rec House before 7:40 a.m. may do so. Thank you!

Meet the Teacher Night – September 19th

This year we will be hosting a “Meet the Teacher” evening from 4:00 – 6:45 p.m. on September 19th. This is an opportunity for you to stop by with your child, see their learning space and meet the classroom teacher. We will be hosting individual, sit-down, 15-minute scheduled conferences on October 24th and 25th.
