Monday Message: September 29th

In Gratitude

Thank you to the parents and family members who came to observe Orange Shirt Day and the honoring of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Andrew Sibbald School. In just a few short weeks, the Gr. 4 students worked with their teachers and Mrs. Odegard to be able to share songs, reflections, and poems with the school community.

CBE encourages staff, teachers, and families to participate in the live event at the Confluence Historic Site and Parkland to commemorate residential school victims, honor survivors, and their families, and commit to acting on reconciliation. The event will be live streamed on the City of Calgary website and is hosted by the City of Calgary, Calgary Board of Education, and Calgary Catholic School Division. It will take place on Tuesday, September 30th at 9:00 am.

Thank you, also, for the awesome September treats for staff and teachers brought in last week! They were enjoyed by all.

Professional Learning Day – September 29th

As a staff we are looking forward to the upcoming professional learning day on Monday, September 29th. In the morning, we will be learning from a CBE System Specialist who specializes in gifted education and twice-exceptional learners. We will also be working on our School Development Plan goal around mathematics and procedural fluency. Reminder – this is a learning day for staff only. There is no school for students.

Please Join us for the Terry Fox Run - Thurs Oct 2 – 1:30 pm

Thank you to Ms. Braat and Ms. Chen and all the Grade 5 students who are organizing the Terry Fox Run at Andrew Sibbald School this year. Please see the information from them below:

The students at Andrew Sibbald have been learning about the importance and impact of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope. On Thursday, October 2nd, we will have our Terry Fox Run. You are invited to run with your child. Please meet us on the field for 1:30 pm. You will see a marked pylon with your child’s teacher’s name. As your child runs by, they will pick you up there! At the end of the run (25 mins), the bell will ring, and students will then go to their marked classroom pylon and return to class for the end of the day. This year, Andrew Sibbald has a goal of reaching $624 to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. Please donate a Toonie for Terry up until the day of the run. Our Grade 5 students will be hosting a short assembly in advance of the run. If you are a Grade 5 parent and would like to join us, please come to the gym at 1:00 pm.

~ Ms. Braat and Ms. Chen
