Andrew Sibbald’s Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Parents, as you know, September 30th is a day for all Canadians to reflect on the impacts of residential schools and as educators, this is especially significant for us due to the role and responsibility schools play in Reconciliation. On Thursday morning, our students and staff met outside in our learning grounds for a brief assembly as a school community. The sea of orange shirts was powerful. Thank you for your support on this day.  All CBE schools will be flying our flags at half-mast. Many of us staff will also be attending the City of Calgary event on Monday morning. Andrew Sibbald’s annual commitment to Truth and Reconciliation can be viewed here.
Leading up to Treaty 7 week and our school’s observance of Orange Shirt Day, teachers took up this work in meaningful & developmentally appropriate ways. Please see evidence of this learning on our classroom teachers' blogs.
Classroom Blogs Terry Fox Run – Friday, October 4th
Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, October 4th on the west field at about 9:10 am.  After a quick meeting in the gym, students will exit the school's west doors to begin the run on the field.  We will have a course laid out for students to follow and will wrap up the event around 9:30. Students will return to class for the remainder of the morning.  Parents, if you choose to join us for the event, we invite you to participate with your child(ren) by walking, jogging, or running alongside them for the event. Please meet us on the west field at 9:10 (no need to sign in at the office). Should the weather be uncooperative that morning, we will send a message prior to 9:00 am indicating the event has been postponed. Our Tues/Thurs Kinder students will do their own run with their Gr.3 buddies as our Mon/Wed Kinder students attend school this Friday. Thanks to Ms. Hayes & Mrs. Braun for organizing this.

We will be hosting a Toonies for Terry Drive.  Student representatives will come to classrooms on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings to collect money for our Toonie Drive.  If you would prefer to donate online, you can do so by visiting our school page here.

We look forward to a wonderful event in support of a worthy cause. Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero whose legacy has done much for cancer research and care. Lastly, I’d also like to thank the Grade 5 students who were a part of the Terry Fox Committee and Mr. Newman for the organization of this event.
