Dear Andrew Sibbald families,  

We are hopeful that spring will soon be here to stay. Mother Nature has surely received the message we are ready for sunny days and warmer temps! With the nicer weather it is great to see students riding their bikes and scooters to school. A friendly reminder that it is student’s responsibility to safely secure and lock their bike or scooter on the racks provided on both the east and west side of the school. Later in the spring our new scooter racks will be installed on the east side of the building.  A reminder that students should be wearing helmets and must walk their bike or scooter while on school property, to avoid collisions.  

We were thrilled to have author Angela Murphy at Andrew Sibbald! Kindergarten, grade 1, 2 and 3 all had an opportunity to meet her and listen to her stories. If you want to learn more about her Wonder Pups series of books, here is a link.  

We know that some families have equipped their child with a smartwatch or mobile device.  This is of course a decision for each family and with students walking to and from school this often provides peace of mind. While at school, these devices must be away, in accordance with CBE’s Away for the Day policy. This was brought into effect as a direct result of the Alberta government’s ministerial order Standards for the Use of Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in Schools. This means that all mobile devices, including smartwatches, must be in a student backpack during instructional time.  More detail can be found on the CBE website. Our goal is to work together to ensure students understand and respect that all devices are away for the day. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please contact the main office.
