Monday Message: September 1, 2025

 Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,

We all hope you’ve had a wonderful long weekend and are excited to begin the 2025-26 school year with us. We can’t wait.

Thank you to the families who joined us for our drop-in open house. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning at 7:50 (and Wednesday morning for our Mon/Wed Kinder class). Teachers will be out on the compound at 7:45 near their dismissal and entry doors. This year, our school-wide anchor text is, I Am We: A Book of Community by Susan Verde. This text will guide our learning as we come to know each of our students, staff members and Andrew Sibbald families.

Parents are important partners in their child’s learning, and we invite you to join us on September 9th for our School Council Meeting. We will meet at the school at 6:30 p.m.

Have a wonderful week ahead. Thank you for all of your support of our school and our teachers!

Potential Labour Action – Communication from CBE

The Calgary Board of Education is continuing planning for the start of the school year on Sept. 2. We recognize the uncertainty of potential labour action may be challenging for families. We are committed to keeping families informed. Any new information will be shared with families and posted to our labour action page as soon as it is available.

Communication from the Office

The office will be sending out weekly email messages to all Andrew Sibbald families. These messages will be emailed at 7:00 pm the night before the week begins for students and staff. We hope to inform all families of important information and upcoming events through the “Monday Message.” As always, please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Communication of Student Learning

Teachers will be posting a weekly ‘learning snapshot’ in their classroom blogs (links included in the Monday Message). They will also be sending home ‘take home folders’ with assessed student work samples throughout the year. These will be sent home with your child every few weeks. Formal communication of student learning updates occurs during Parent Teacher Conferences held in October and February this year. As always, please reach out to your child’s teacher around any questions or concerns. The best way to get a hold of teachers is through email. Please note – many teachers don’t check email throughout the day, as they are busy teaching! For immediate concerns, please call the office.

Student Drop Off & Pick Up

Please note that the staff parking lot cannot be used for Rec House drop off any time after 7:40 a.m. and is never to be used for school drop off. It is unsafe for students and staff. There is short-term parking along Lake Bonavista Drive and along the side roads. Our AMA School Patrol team will get up and running in the coming weeks once they are trained. In the meantime, please use extra caution when using the crosswalk. As per the City of Calgary, parents are not permitted to park within 5 meters of crosswalks.  Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of our students.

Reporting Attendance & Lates

Please inform the main office if your child is ill or is going to be absent or late by emailing: andrewsibbald@cbe.ab.ca. You may also call the office at 403-777-6830 to report an absence. Any absence greater than two weeks requires an extended absence form. Please reach out to our main office with any questions.

Volunteering at Andrew Sibbald for the 2025-26 School Year

Thank you to the parents and family members who are interested in volunteering with our school. One of the best ways to become involved is by participating on our School Council or Parent Association. Meetings are held monthly and include opportunities to share your input including how to make decisions around how funds are raised and spent to enhance learning.

  • Classroom volunteer opportunities will begin once teachers have had a chance to form strong routines and structures within their new classroom communities. Classroom teachers make decisions around volunteers and volunteer opportunities. Stay tuned for more information from your child’s teacher around opportunities.
  • School-wide volunteer opportunities are often available, including helping in the learning commons, supporting school photos and other events throughout the year. Thank you in advance for being willing to help out in this capacity! Keep an eye on your email.
  • Volunteer Clearance requires completion of an Annual Volunteer Form (within your MyCBE PowerSchool account) as well as a valid Police Clearance. If you have questions about starting your clearance process, please reach out to our main office at andrewsibbald@cbe.ab.ca.

Lunch Supervision Registration

Registration for lunch supervision will be available through MyCBE. All students staying at school during the daily lunch break must be registered and pay the annual fee (various payment options available).

School Transportation Registration

Your school bus stop and the route will be posted in MyCBECBE Transportation continues to accept registration; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Due to volume, processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year. Families are responsible for transportation until their registration is confirmed.
