Dear Andrew Sibbald families,
With this first November message, I feel like we have transitioned from fall to winter weather very quickly! We are now in the midst of snowpants and mittens, we are also well settled into classroom routines.
November brings some busy days ahead, and we are excited for upcoming field trips and chances to come together as a school community. Upcoming Concerts for 2026-27
As staff, we have put a lot of consideration and thought into planning concerts for this school year. The goal is to provide opportunities for all students to perform and maximize the number of guests that students can invite.
Concerts are no small task, and we appreciate the planning and preparation that Mrs. Odegard, our music teacher, puts in, along with our classroom teachers and support staff. She is always looking for great ways to set our students up for success and display their growth.
A continued concern is the size of our gym. Due to fire regulations, we are limited to a gym capacity of approximately 400 people (depending on seating arrangements) and with 318 students in our building that limits the guest who can come to watch performances.
As a result, we are planning to spread our concerts out, over the course of the school year. This approach has worked well at other CBE schools. This will allow students to share their talents and for families to bring a few extra guests per student.
The plan is as follows:
Thursday, December 3 – Grade 2, Grade 3 and Choir students
Thursday, February 4 – Kindergarten and Grade 1
Thursday, May 27 – Grade 4, Grade 5 and Glee Club students
Remembrance Day
Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be on November 10 at 10:45am. This will be hosted by our grade 2 classes. As this is a whole school event, there is limited seating for families interested in joining us for this assembly.
We will be distributing poppies to all students that day. Any students who would like to donate to the Poppy Fund, there will be a collection box in the office beginning Nov 2.
We collected donations for the Veteran's Food Bank at our Halloween Dance and will continue to collect donations until Fall Break. Boxes are located near the main office.
Sibbald Leads
In the coming weeks we are launching Sibbald Leads, leadership opportunities for students. It is our goal to involve each grade level in age-appropriate helper roles throughout the year to build responsibility and have students contribute to our community in a positive way. This week, we will be sending home a form with students so you can learn more about the opportunities offered and give permission for their participation.
All the best,
Mary-Elizabeth Kaiser
