Dear Andrew Sibbald families,

We have been lucky to enjoy beautiful autumn weather this year. With October ending, we anticipate colder temperatures and more precipitation. A reminder that students are outside for both a morning and lunch recess, daily, and is important for them to come dressed for the weather and prepared to be outdoors.

Upcoming Concerts for 2026-27

As staff, we have put a lot of consideration and thought into planning concerts for this school year.  The goal is to provide opportunities for all students to perform and maximize the number of guests that students can invite.

Concerts are no small task, and we appreciate the planning and preparation that Mrs. Odegard, our music teacher, puts in, along with our classroom teachers and support staff. She is always looking for great ways to set our students up for success and display their growth.

A continued concern is the size of our gym. Due to fire regulations, we are limited to a gym capacity of approximately 400 people (depending on seating arrangements) and with 318 students in our building that limits the guest who can come to watch performances.

As a result, we are planning to spread our concerts out, over the course of the school year. This approach has worked well at other CBE schools. This will allow students to share their talents and for families to bring a few extra guests per student.

The plan is as follows:

  • Thursday, December 3 – Grade 2, Grade 3 and Choir students
  • Thursday, February 4 – Kindergarten and Grade 1
  • Thursday, May 27 – Grade 4, Grade 5 and Glee Club students

Sibbald Leads

In the coming weeks we are launching Sibbald Leads, leadership opportunities for students. It is our goal to involve each grade level in age-appropriate helper roles throughout the year to build responsibility and have students contribute to our community in a positive way. Over the coming weeks, we will be sending home a form with students so you can learn more about the opportunities offered and give permission for their participation.

Reminder

A reminder that the staff parking lot is not permitted for student drop off and pick up. It is a busy spot with many people crossing through to get to the door, and it is not safe when cars are in and out of the lot.  Please park or stop on the street or in the adjacent alley.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser - Message from Parent Association

Our cookie dough fundraiser is almost done! A big thank you to those of you who have already submitted your final orders. We're currently sitting at $2,400 in profit, well on our way to the goal of $7,500. For those of you trying for top-seller prizes, the current top-seller sold 34 boxes, so that's the number to beat!

This is your last week to collect orders. Please submit your final order to us by Friday, October 30.

REMINDER: Your buyers should not be using the QR code on the order form to submit orders to us directly. Please collect payment from your buyers in the method of your choice (cash, e-transfer, etc.) and only use the QR code to submit one order to us for all cookie dough your student sold. If you are aware of any orders that were submitted to us directly from a buyer, please reach out to us at fundraising@sibbaldparents.ca and we will ensure the orders are correctly linked to your student.

Halloween Dance - Message from Parent Association

Join us on October 29 for our Halloween Dance! Students and families are invited to wear their favorite costumes and enjoy music, dancing, and spooky fun. Tickets are free but due to school capacity limits, we are required to split the event into two time slots.

Sign up for one of the time slots here.

Families are invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the Veterans Food Bank.

The Parent Association is still looking for volunteers to fill the last few jobs. Please sign up for a volunteer position at Halloween Dance Volunteers

Grade 5 volunteers, please submit your form by Monday!

All the best,
